A hip seat is a simple baby carrier that wraps around your waist and sits above your hips to help you carry your baby more comfortably, and with less hassle. Hipseat carriers also offer added convenience with built-in storage compartments, making it easy to carry your and your baby’s items along with you without having to lug around a diaper bag.
Put diapers and wipes in the storage beneath the seat. Access your keys, phone, and wallet in the side pockets. Attach toys to the loops and tuck bottles in the holder.

While all of our Tushbabies are easy to clean, some need a little extra love due to the quality of the fabric. Always be sure to empty the storage pockets, remove the plastic insert, and fasten the velcro before washing.
When can you hip carry baby?
Many parents like a baby carrier that offers full support, from slings to wraps to more structured material. Carriers work great for parents who want to be “attached” to their babies without having to use their hands and arms to hold them constantly. They also may help soothe a baby who is fussy, going through a growth spurt, or simply likes to be held… a lot!
But once your baby is a little older, independent, and curious about the world around them, it’s a great idea to make the switch to a hip carrier. Hip carriers allow for more independence as your baby grows and develops, and they work wonders for your back, alleviating any strain and pressure. They also work great for the toddler who wants to be picked up… and put down… and picked back up again… you get the idea.
How should babies’ hips be in a carrier?
Most pediatricians recommend a healthy seated “M” position when using a hip seat carrier. That means your tot’s knees should be sitting higher than their tush when they’re in the face-to-face and side carry position.
For optimal hip health, their hips and legs should also be able to move freely and not be straight or together for long periods of time. But no matter how you wear your baby, it’s a good idea to adjust your baby’s legs and hips every so often to make sure they’re in that Marvelous, Magnificent, aMazing M-shape.
Are hip carriers safe for newborns?
Tushbaby is great for breastfeeding support, making it the perfect carrier at any age. But because a hip seat carrier isn’t totally hands-free, it’s important to remember that while you can wear your baby snugly and close to your body, you will still need to keep them secure with your arms for the safest support possible. But by the time your baby is around 4 months old and has control over their neck and head, you can use the hip seat carrier in various ways. So snuggle your baby on a hip seat all you want; just keep them secure with one arm so you can safely wear them on your hip.
When can you turn baby out in a hip carrier?
Every baby is different and will develop and grow at their own pace within standard guidelines. But as soon as your baby can hold up their head, usually around 4 to 6 months, they can sit out and face the world! Even more exciting, with Tushbaby, they’ll also have the option to continue sitting face-to-face, or they can be worn on your side, straddling your body so they can snuggle and cling while enjoying all of the exciting sights around them.
How many carry positions does Tushbaby offer?
Tushbaby offers four carry positions: front-facing, face-to-face, side carrying, and feeding position. It can be used from infancy to 36 months, and supports children up to 45lbs. When your tot is older, you can even use Tushbaby for piggyback rides — they’ll love it!
Can you sit with a baby hip carrier?
Absolutely! Sitting while babywearing is perfectly fine, as long as your baby’s legs and feet don’t hit any surfaces accidentally. Most parents and caregivers perfect the art of sitting while babywearing, and you will, too. Remember, with a hip carrier, you’ll have to keep your baby secure with one arm, so it’s not totally hands-free, but you’ll still be able to carry your baby more comfortably and with less hassle than more traditional carriers. Tushbaby also doubles as a hip and stylish fanny pack, with enough pockets for you to stash your stuff without being bogged down by more bags.
Do you make one for twins?
Tushbaby is meant to carry one child at a time. Parents of twins are often buying two—one for each parent to wear.
Is it hands-free?
Tushbaby on its own is not hands-free, and a caregiver must keep one hand on the child at all times; but now, you can take your Tushbaby hands-free by adding The Snug attachment! This 2-in-1 combo converts the Tushbaby to a full carrier, giving you all the benefits of a hip seat with the convenience and comfort of a wrap.
If you have a medical condition or are unsure if Tushbaby is the right product for you, we recommend consulting your doctor before purchasing or using it. If you have pain before or during use, you should not continue using Tushbaby. We also recommend switching the side that the seat is on and taking breaks after prolonged use.
If you have trouble with stability or walking, we do not recommend using Tushbaby.
Tushbaby’s waistband is 46 inches long, but you lose a few inches where the two sides overlap to secure the Velcro. It fits a 43-inch waist.
